Coffee Drop - Winter 2017

About a month and a half ago we enjoyed an afternoon cupping with Ben Helt of Anthem Imports ( We love working with those guys!) ; Our bar was lined 7 outstanding coffees but 2 stood out among the rest-

Kerinci Honey Sumatra &  Yirgacheffe Dumerso

The {Kerinci Honey Sumatra} surprised us, and jazzed our taste buds. It's rare for us to have one on the bar because we find they are often too vegetal and earthy for our preferred tasting profile; And although those attributes were present we fell for it's complex and atypical notes.

Taste Profile -

With your first sip you'll notice a mysterious sweetness akin to a roasted sweet pepper, this flavor gives way to a spicy dark chocolate and finishes with a subtle but captivating grapefruit like acidity and note.

Preferred Brewing Method-

French Press

Origin Details-

Found in Kerinci Highlands of Sumatra, Kerinci Honey is grown in the rich volcanic soil of the highest active volcano in Southeast Asia, Mt. Kerinci at an altitude of 1400-1500 meters. This particular coffee is a collection of Andung Sari, Sigararutang, P88, Tim-Tim and Bor Bor Varieties, and is Honey processed / pulp-dried on raised bed, and often covered.

The Kerenci is curated by 600 farmers all in association with Santiang Exports' coffee initiative. Established in 2005 by Craig Owen, an American Q-grader, Santiang Exports provides the "bridge of communication, experience, relationships and trust between global markets for Sumatran coffee." They do this by training farmers sustainable growing practices and also providing quality seedling. The farmers working with Santiang must also commit to not grow their coffee within the Kerinci Seblat National Park; This is a recurrent issue, because many locals do not realize the benefits provided by an intact rainforest. These growing practices are verified by frequent on-site visits. In turn this relationship bring the farmers better yields, a sustainable business and more visibility in the global coffee market.

The {Yirgacheffe Dumerso} was the very last coffee we cupped, and everything else just kind of paled in comparision. It a crowd-stopper. A strawberry punch to the face. We couldn't say no.

Taste Profile-

With your first sip it's hard not to notice the literal explosion of juicy, sweet strawberries in your mouth, this lively experience is followed by understated blueberry notes and rounded out by a  jasmine tea mouth feel.

Preferred Brewing Method

Kalita + Chemex + Espresso

Origin Details-

Found in the town of Yirgacheffe in Ethiopia's Sidama region, Yirgacheffe Dumerso is processed at Dumerso Dry Mill Station, Yirgacheffe's very first full Natural processing station. The Dry Mill was established by Mr. Girma Edema, the pioneer of a full natural coffee process method. The coffee is of the indigenous heirloom variety and natural dried on raised beds.

From the very first trial, Dumerso natural coffee has received many accolades from specialty coffee prestigious awards for it unique processing and flavor notes. It's a coffee that has inspired other producers in the area to follow suit.

We hope you enjoy every single drop!
